Dear Neighbor,

This week Chicago Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady announced a partnership between CDPH and ZocDoc for scheduling vaccine appointments. ZocDoc’s user-friendly scheduling platform will aggregate available appointments through City mass vaccination sites (which are not open to the public yet), and through healthcare networks including AMITA Health, Erie Family Health, Innovative Express Care, and Rush University Medical Center. Appointments are still limited, as the demand for vaccines in Chicago far outweighs the current available supply. Visit zocdoc.com/vaccine to look for an appointment, and to sign up for notifications when appointments become available.

My office is working to develop a network of support for phase 1b neighbors who do not have internet access, to ensure they are able to access vaccine appointments. If you know of a neighbor who may need such assistance, please share their name and contact information with Ginger Williams in our office at ginger@48thward.org.

As we continue to navigate the vaccine rollout, it is important that we are all patient. It is also important that you receive a vaccine when you are eligible and are offered an appointment. My office will continue to keep the Vaccine Resources page on our website as up to date as possible with information on local vaccination sites. We will continue to regularly provide updates in our email newsletters.

I have no doubt that this is due in part to our community’s unified spirit, and our compassion for one another by following public health guidelines. It is also important to note that it is due to the many supportive amenities in our community, which we are privileged to have access to: ample healthcare options, food access resources like Care for Real and Edgewater Mutual Aid, the more than 600 neighbors who volunteered for our 48th Ward Community Response Team, and the beautiful lakefront which gives us space and fresh air to spread out. As the City battles this epidemic, we see other communities with positivity and death rates far exceeding ours. Our hearts go out to these communities, and I thank CDPH and the Mayor’s Office for their equity- and data-driven approach through Protect Chicago+ to ensure we get needed testing, PPE, and vaccine resources to neighbors living in these areas.

My office is co-hosting a day of free COVID-19 testing with Near North Health Services Corporation and the Isamili Jamatkhana this Saturday, February 6, 10am-2pm, in the parking lot at 6259 N. Broadway. This is a walk-up and drive-up test, available to anyone over the age of 5, regardless of insurance or immigration status. We encourage pre-registration via this Eventbrite link, but walk-ins will be accepted while supplies are available. My staff and I will be on site during the event to distribute free masks and smoke detectors to neighbors who need them. Please bundle up, as this is an outdoor event and we are expecting a very cold weekend.

As you make plans for Super Bowl Sunday, please consider finding ways to support our local businesses. It’s going to be a cold and blustery weekend, so plan on hunkering down at home and doing curbside pickup or delivery. Here are a few suggestions to help you plan your menu, and we will share more in our Friday newsletter:
