48th Ward Weekly Update – November 18, 2020

Dear Neighbor,

As we continue to see COID-19 cases and hospitalizations rise in Chicago and across the state and country, I thank each of you for doing your part to prevent the spread of this deadly virus. When we mask up, keep social distance from others, and choose to stay home instead of making non-essential trips outside our homes, we are protecting ourselves, our families, and our neighbors. Please continue to follow the guidance put out for a Stay at Home Advisory. If you or a neighbor have special needs during this time and need a connection to resources, please call my office at 773-784-5277 or email harry@48thward.org.

Each Wednesday my office will is highlighting local businesses in the Andersonville, Edgewater, and Uptown neighborhoods. Please use this as an opportunity to discover new experiences close to home, and consider ordering from one of the restaurants below tomorrow for Takeout Thursday

Uvae Kitchen and Wine Bar, 5553 N Clark StAlthough restaurants are closed for indoor dining, you can still enjoy take-out food and beverages from home! Order your next date-night dinner from Uvae Kitchen and Wine Bar in Andersonville. Choose a wine dinner for two, which includes four courses with wine pairings, a Sunday brunch for two where you can enjoy a trio of house-made purees as well as a bottle of cava (sparkling Spanish wine), or anything from Uvae’s extensive menu. And to celebrate the upcoming holiday season, Uvae offers holiday platters, a thanksgiving dinner delivered, and a goat cheese cheesecake. But if wine is what you’re after, attend a virtual Zoom wine tasting led by Uvae sommeliers and guest wine makers. Order food, drinks, and register for wine tastings online.Website | Facebook | Instagram

Ethiopian Diamond Restaurant & Bar, 6120 N BroadwayIf you’re craving flavor-rich cuisine, place your online order for weekend brunch, lunch, or dinner from Ethiopian Diamond Restaurant & Bar in Edgewater. Meat lovers and vegetarians are likely to find something delicious from its menu of authentic and flavorful Ethiopian dishes. Explore the menu filled with beef, chicken, lamb, seafood, and vegetarian entrées. Not sure where to start? Try a ‘Taste of Ethiopia,’ where you can enjoy samplers of various dishes. And to accompany your meal, try one of Ethiopian Diamond’s signature drinks, such as an Ethiopian Sunrise, a Blue Nile, African beers, or your choice of wine. Fun fact: Ruth Bader Ginsburg dined at Ethiopian Diamond when visiting her son whose record label is based in Edgewater!Website | Facebook | Instagram

Immm Rice & Beyond, 4949 N Broadway Interested in trying authentic Thai street food but find yourself unable to travel to Thailand? Order from Immm Rice & Beyond in Uptown. Immm is known for its modern interpretation of classic and beyond delicious dishes and foods found at food carts in the streets of Thailand. Order khao rad gang (cooked food in a steam table served over rice), som tum (papaya salad), arhaan tam sung (food made to order), kuay tiew (soup noodles), Thai-style lunch plates, or something sweet for dessert. Although you can’t experience the colorful and cozy dining atmosphere of Immm Rice & Beyond, ordering online and savoring their food at home is a great option. Make sure to say “immm”—which means ‘I’m stuffed’—when you’re done eating and “arroy” if it’s delicious! Website | Facebook | Instagram
