Public Safety Update – December 9, 2016

2016 has seen an increase in violent crimes throughout the city. Locally, we have worked with neighbors and the Chicago Police Department to reduce violence in our community and increase safety. These partnerships have yielded many successful operations and several narcotics takedowns. The most recent was an operation conducted by the Chicago Police Department’s Bureau of Organized Crime, Narcotics Division, along with 20th District Tactical Officers, resulting in over 30 arrests throughout Uptown, Edgewater, and Rogers Park.

The December 7th arrest of a suspected armed robber in the area shows the effect that a good partnership can yield. Continuing to strengthen these partnerships will have a lasting effect on our neighborhood safety and continue to improve our community overall. An individual was arrested by 20th District Officers on the 1400 block of W. Elmdale on December 7 at approximately 6:05 a.m. after being identified as the offender in an armed robbery. On November 27, 2016 at approximately 6:05 p.m., a 21 year-old male was approached by the individual on the 5800 block of N. Ridge, where the individual pointed a handgun at the male and demanded the male’s money. The victim complied and the offender fled. He is also charged with four additional armed robberies. Thank you to the 20th District Police Department on a job well done in their most recent apprehension. I want to thank the 20th and 24th Districts for their continued vigilance in keeping us safe.
