Weekly Update from Your Alderman – July 7, 2017

Weekly Update from Your Alderman: Edgewater Greek Fest, Andersonville First Fridays, Chicago Ride for AIDS, and more!
July 7, 2017
Dear Neighbor:

This weekend hundreds of dedicated cyclists will participate in the Ride for AIDS Chicago, a 2-day, 200-mile ride benefiting Test Positive Aware Network (TPAN). This critical event brings together those living with HIV/AIDS, LGBTQ advocates, cyclists, endurance athletes, and everyday folks to raise important funds to support TPAN’s efforts. TPAN, recently relocated next to our office on North Broadway, is an amazing organization that helps and supports those living with HIV and AIDS. This ride is one of their biggest fundraisers of the year. If you have the ability to donate to this ride, all funds raised support individuals in our community and around the city living with HIV and AIDS. To learn how you can donate to support this event or be part of the post-ride celebration, click here.

Tonight the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce launches their new series called Andersonville First Fridays. The first Friday of every month will feature retailers with extended hours, special promotions, entertainment, and events. Tonight’s kick-off includes the grand opening of Transit Tees (5226 N. Clark), an art opening at Sidewinder Gallery (4880 N. Clark), free cookies at Jerry’s (5419 N. Clark), live acoustic music at Andersonville Brewing (5400 N. Clark), and more. Click here for the full run-down on special events and offerings tonight in Andersonville.

Join me this weekend for Edgewater Greek Fest at St. Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Church. This event, in its 56th year, is a wonderful celebration of Greek heritage, featuring authentic Greek food, drinks, music, children’s activities, and dancing. Greek Fest will take place in the St. Andrew’s parking lot, 5649 N. Sheridan, on Saturday, July 8, 3-11pm and Sunday, July 9, noon-10:30pm. Click here for more information.

Thank you to everyone who came out to last night’s Argyle Night Market. It was a beautiful night with a record attendance of over 4,000 people! It was fitting that we celebrated Uptown United and the 20th District winning the 2016 MetLife Foundation Community-Police Partnership Award for their collaboration on the Argyle Night Market. Thank you to Uptown United, Argyle Street businesses, Chinese Mutual Aid Association, and the many volunteers who come together to make this weekly event a safe and positive experience in the community.

Have a great weekend.

Sincerely,
Harry Osterman
Alderman, 48th Ward

Public Safety Update
Free Burglary Assessment
The 20th and 24th Police District are offering free home burglary assessments for our neighborhoods. We would like to do up to 5 assessments at any given time.

This is a free service provided by the Police Districts.  Neighbors are invited walk together during the assessment as each property may present a new opportunity for a burglar to gain access to your home.  Identifying these various ways a burglar can come into a home will help everyone be a little more prepared and safer by pinpointing distinct methods to secure vulnerabilities.

Please contact Marko Zaric in my office if you would like to participate in this free service. He can be reached at 773-784-5277 or Marko@48thward.org. This is for residential multi-unit buildings as well as single family homes.
