Weekly Update from Your Alderman – June 11, 2019

Dear Neighbor:

In the last two days there have been instances of shots fired in our community:

  • On Sunday, June 9, around 9 pm, shots were fired on the 6000 block of N. Kenmore, damaging property and leaving no one injured.
  • Monday morning, June 10, between 2 and 4am, police received reports of shots fired near Winona and Winthrop.
  • On Monday, June 10, around 8 pm, several male individuals were involved in a verbal argument near Hollywood and Sheridan. The argument escalated and someone pulled out a handgun and fired several rounds. No one was injured. The individuals are believed to know each other and this is believed to be an isolated incident.

I am working closely with the 20th and 24th Police District Commanders to directly address these issues. The Chicago Police Department is investigating these incidents and reviewing video footage. There will be increased police presence in the impacted areas. I will share further updates about these occurrences in Friday’s newsletter.

If you have additional information regarding these incidents, please contact Area North Detectives at 312-744-8263. I ask residents to be aware of their surroundings and to report any suspicious individuals, activity, or vehicles to 911.

I encourage you to attend your local CAPS beat meetings to get regular updates from the police regarding safety issues close to your home or business. To find out which police district and beat you belong to, click here to find out.

Please contact Alan Oviedo in my office with questions or concerns regarding public safety matters in the ward. Alan can be reach at alan@48thward.org or 773-784-5277.

Sincerely,
